Little Miss Independent

Full dependence on God is a challenge for my independent self. You see, despite my world travels I am American through and through, having a "I can do it" attitude and "nothing that hard work can't fix" notions. Nothing wrong with those philosophies, but God desires our full surrender which unlocks our freedom and blessing. Problem is my stubborness, I blame it on my Italian blood from Dad's side of the family!! Due to my thickheaded-ness, God places me in situations forcing dependence on Him, sometimes painful but always effective!
Example #1, being a nurse having 6 patients all with chest pain. Larger example #2 my child, Gideon. He literally undoes me, like beyond my comprehension. When it comes to parenting, I have no answers just both arms up in the air waving the white flag! I don't know what I'm doing. Sharing this tidbit for anyone else who doesn't know what they are doing, your in good company!
Yes Lord, my independence is shrinking; more of you and less of me please.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord."
Isaiah 55:8

  1. Oh, Maria, you totally know what you are doing! Give yourself credit! You are a great mama.

  2. My kids have been in permanent meltdown mode around here lately too. I'm reading a great book right now that reminds me that God delivered the Israelites to the Promised Land... he will deliver tired and weary mothers as well. oxo, Jill

  3. I'm in need of that same deliverance. I just asked my husband last night if he ever felt like Paul (biblical one) because of the persecution we go through on a daily basis for 11 yrs with his ex wife regarding my stepson. Phew.. this post you put up was just what I needed to hear.

  4. I can identify with every word you wrote. Relinquishing control (or my perceived version of it, anyways), confronting my fallibility and down-right cluelessness as a parent ... all very familiar.

I'm a little embarrassed to include a link to one of my own posts (so cheesy, isn't it?), but I wrote it when I was in a similar frame of mind as you may be.

I don't expect it will tell you anything you don't already know, but maybe you'll at least feel in good company!

I love Jill's comment above ... "He will deliver tired and weary mothers" just has he delivered His weary, and yes, clueless children of the desert.

    Hugs to you.
    A.

  5. Just found your blog. I agree...complete faith and surrender is v. hard in today's society. A constant challenge. Remember, He doesn't give us more than we can handle!

  6. I absolutely agree! I love that God keeps putting us in situations where we have to rely on him for help. He never lets us get too comfortable, but always takes care of us if we let Him.
